Our annual Canady Family Reunion will be held June 22nd through the 24th. These days had to stay the same due to the scheduling of the conference rooms.

Hello Canady Family,

As I was preparing for our upcoming reunion on the 22nd of June and realized that there are a lot of members we haven’t seen in a while. We need your help to recruit them back. We some nice growth last year, but its not nearly the size it has been in the past.

I realize that we have conflicts some time. As children grow, there are sports, events, trips or other miscellaneous things that keep us away, but year after year? Its time to tell these delinquents that we miss seeing them. We will open welcome them back like the prodigal son was welcomed back.

So let’s track these folks down, send them a nice reminder of what a beautiful place this is. Tell them we’d like them to come visit for a weekend. Tell them we won’t make fun of their new bald spot, pot belly or other (insert your own aging joke here).

Its just as much fun, though the venue has changed. They’ll see some familiar, yet contorted faces, as well as newer, younger faces they need to meet.

So send a direct personal invitation to these people (I know you know how to contact them):

The Hernandez family (AZ)
The Hernandez family (Savannah)
The Graham family (Savannah)
The Canady family (Knoxville, TN)
The Maloof family (Lawrenceville, GA)
The Makay family (GA)
The Weeks family (FL)
The Hunnicut family (GA)
The Jones family (GA)
The Canady family (Washington, DC)

I know there are people I am forgetting. You know who they are. Your orders, should you choose to accept them, are to hunt them down and bring them to Saint Simons Island on June 22nd.

Take care,

Chip

Happy New Year Canady family. I hope everyone is doing well.

Its not too early to begin planning your June vacation for the Canady family reunion. The 2006 Reunion was a blast (literally). The Saturday afternoon water gun fight was a needed cool blast. If you missed the 2006 reunion, you missed the water fun, the rope and challenge course, the great meals, Berle’s hospitality room and getting together with all of your cousins in a most relaxing environment. You missed Bingo, door prizes, kids night and the “The Games”. Another set of eggs were lost to bad hands.

Why haven’t we seen you? Have you forgotten about us? We haven’t forgotten about you. Berle Hancock shared videos from past reunions, so we know what you used to look like. That was you with the frizzy hair, mullet, long side-burns, flowered dress, singing karaoke. Nice.

You get another chance to show us that you’ve changed (again). We will be gathering together on Saint Simons Island Georgia at Epworth By the Sea to do it all again. Make your plans today. Call Tiffany and reserve your spot. We had a nice growth spurt last year and I anticipate another this year. The word is spreading and we don’t want to miss you again this year.

Canady Family,

I apologize for getting this out late, but attached is the form you will need to register for the family reunion.

Please be prepared for fun and relaxation.  Those of you who attended last year remember the wonderful accommodations and scenery we enjoyed last year.

Take the time to register as soon as possible.  Don’t be left out.

Julie is planning more games for Friday night.  Billy Steinhauser is working on games for Saturday afternoon and I’m getting rates for a Saturday morning adventure course for the adults.

Lock in the dates June 16 – 18th with Epworth. Its almost that time!

Canady Family,

First, let me apologize for the lack of emails you’ve received from me since we last saw each other.  From July to December was very busy.

My acting career started to flourish.  I had roles on networks including CBS, NBC, FOX and WB.  Hopefully you didn’t mind seeing me as the “wife-murdering cop” on America’s Most Wanted.  This year may bring more fun roles.

In addition, I’ve been producing my own short film.  We start filming in less than a week.  As we get closer to our first shoot date, I’ve had to be more of a producer than an actor.  It has been fun.  “Untouched” will be a beautiful 15 minute film that my production team will be sending out to festivals around the world.

Our youngest son, Jack, turned 5 years old in December.  John’s soccer team won the city YMCA tournament.  I’m coaching his basketball team.  Susana and a friend went to Japan for a week in September (all expenses paid).  She lost about five pounds from not eating.

So now on to business...

I confirmed with Epworth yesterday the dates for the upcoming reunion.  Per our discussion at the reunion and by majority request, we moved the dates up to June.  The dates for the reunion will be June 16th – 18th.  She is sending me a package that will have phone numbers and reservation forms.  Please take the time and make your reservation as soon as possible.  We will be staying in the same hotel as last year.  If you recall, it had a spectacular view and had ultra clean rooms.  I’ve asked her to put us all in the same area of the hotel this time. I’m working out some details with her for a group rate for the rope and obstacle course if any of you are interested.  Susana and I took a look at it last year.  It appeared to be challenging, but lots of fun.

Mark your calendars.  I’ll keep you updated as soon as I get the package.

Some of the emails I have for you are still coming back “undeliverable”.  Please forward this email to anyone and everyone in your immediate family.  I don’t want anyone left out.

Happy New Year!

Chip

September 12, 2005 -- Some Reunion Highlights

Our 31st Reunion, on Saint Simons Island, was a wonderful change of pace from Jekyll Island.  We had quite a few family members comment that the rooms were the best yet.  The facilities were top notch and the food was delicious.  Wasn’t the afternoon sunset spectacular?

Julie and I are already preparing for next year’s reunion.  Some slight improvements are already being confirmed with Epworth. Next year, we will all be in one corridor of the Turner Lodge and we will have our own dinning room.

Special thanks to Tara Hancock, Julie and Vernon for putting together the “Family Feud”.  The teams had fun and audience participation was enthusiastic.  The kids had fun Friday night making shirts and sun visors, while the adults helped put together our first Canady pictorial directory.  I would also like to thank Macie (mom) for organizing the kids activities Friday and the movie Saturday.

Our games were rained shortened, but there were some races and Patrick Graham was able to surprise a few folks with ice cold water from his giant water gun.  Hopefully the weather will hold off next year.

Other suggestions for next year have included a getting a group together to traverse the rope climbing course at Epworth.  Let us know ahead of time if you are up for it.  Some family members would like to have some deserts or other snack items to munch on during the social times Friday nights while others say we need to bring a microphone for the business meeting.  All suggestions will be given serious consideration, so please feel free to let us know what you would like to see next year.

Everyone agreed that they want the reunion earlier in the Summer.  I am working that out now.

It was great to see the “regulars” like the Steinhausers, Patrick and Regina, Berle and Dottie Hancock, Jack and Tommy Adams, David and Jimmy Lynch, as well as, others.  The reunions wouldn’t be the same with out you.  It was also fun to have some new folks join us and some past regulars return.  Welcome Kevin Rosser and his family from California.  And a special Welcome (back) to Pat Adams.  Congratulations to both Pat and Jack.

If you are interested, watch “One Tree Hill”, Wednesday, October 5th.  You will see make my national television debut as a fireman.  Then on October 30th, I’ll be playing a deputy sheriff on a CBS movie called “Vampire Bats” with Lucy Lawless.

Take care.  I’ll be in touch soon.

Canady Family,

Here are a few things I wanted you to know before arriving in Saint Simons Island, this weekend.  You will need to forward this to anyone you know is attending because I am still getting quite a few returned emails.

Here is the meal schedule. It IS BUFFET for those of you who are staying all weekend.  Meals will be served in the café in the main building:
Breakfast:  7 am – 9 am (on your own).
Lunch:        11:45 am – 1 pm (on your own).
Dinner:        5 pm – 7 pm (on your own).

For those staying for the afternoon.  Be prepared for $11.30 per person.  Also be prepared to get your hand slapped if you take two desserts.

The annual games on Saturday afternoon will be followed by a water balloon/water gun fight.  Wear your bathing suits and bring your best weapon.  Don’t stick around if you don’t want to get wet. Water buckets and balloons will be provided.  Patrick...GAME ON.

Bring your wallets for the raffles.  Some of the raffle items include an MP3 player, gift certificates, “battle boogie board” and a unique, hand-crafted item from Vernon Costollo.  Vernon has some of his work displayed on CSN.

If you have an item or two you’d like to donate to the Adult BINGO on Saturday night, please feel free to bring it.  Not the Goodwill stuff.  Bring the bling.

Last, but not least, bring your cameras, golf clubs, bathing suits, smiles, (plastic cups) and checks for the “Chip Lane for U. S. Senate” fund.

I can’t wait to see you all there.

Just a few days left before folks start heading to St. Simons for the Annual Reunion.  As in years past, we have family who like to drive in just for the afternoon on Saturday.  If you are planning to eat and leave later that afternoon, Epworth has asked us to get a head count so that they will know how much extra food they need to prepare.

Please email me As Soon As Possible so that we can notify Epworth.  I will find out how much the buffet costs and have that information available for you.

Thanks,

Chip

Ps.  PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO ANYONE YOU THINK MAY BE ATTENDTING SATURDAY ONLY.

Canady Clan,

I hope you are getting excited.  The Turner Lodge facility, where we’ll be staying, is finished and ready for us in just two and a half short weeks.  Check out your view from the Frederica River.  Here’s an updated picture.

If you haven’t made your reservations yet, there may be room left in the Canady Condos.  If not, you may have the option to stay in one of the other facilities on the Canady Compound.  Here are some of the choices: http://epworthbythesea.org/motels.html You may not be with us, but their other accommodations are very nice and you still have the meals built in.  Check out their other motels and facilities.

Why?  History.  We have a documentary film maker coming to lay down some history.  He is using some past fun footage of ours and will add some new interviews and photos of his own to create a lasting memory for generations to enjoy.  Be there Friday night to have a chat and help us put this special event together.

There’s just one more tempting thought.  More to come.

Be there or be left out of the “History Books”.

Chip

Okay Canady Family,

With no further adieu, I am emailing tonight to announce the location of our next Canady Family Reunion.

Drum roll please.....

The new locale will be non other than the lovely Epworth By the Sea on prestigious Saint Simons Island.  That’s right, the island that one of our Canady founding fathers actually founded.  I am very excited about Epworth. We will be staying in their brand new facility “Abbott Turner Lodge” overlooking the Frederica River.

This decision did not come easy (at first), but after diligent research and help from Tim Steinhauser, Regina Graham and Julie Hancock, I came to the conclusion that the opportunity we have here is absolutely unique.  Not only will we be christening their new facility, but we will have exclusive access to a very large conference center room.  The room rivals most school gymnasiums, I assure you.  In addition to the conference room, the room rates include 9 meals.  In other words, the family treasury will not have to pay for a conference room or a meal on either Friday or Saturday.  I encourage you to visit their website at http://www.epworthbythesea.com.

The lodge rooms are hotel style with a television and telephone.  They rival any Hampton or Holiday Inn and are head and shoulders above any hotel we have stayed in at Jekyll.  There is a large pool, two buffet-style dinning rooms, our conference room, a lovely chapel (that hosts a 30 minute non-denominational, Sunday morning service) and the setting of the Frederica River.  I toured the facility and was thoroughly impressed.

Some events that are already being planned include: a golf outing, a past-Presidents Roast, kids crafts, kids games on Saturday, adult Family Feud and maybe some other events as well.  I have attached the form that you will need to fill out and email or mail back in to Tiffany Flavell.  tflavell@epworthbythesea.org.  They accept checks, master card and visa, but not American Express.  The cut off date is July 1, 2005.  I would suggest making your reservations as soon as possible.  The rates are attached in the form as well.

Again, please remember that these rates are for two nights.  If you stay one night it will be less.  I hope you stay both Friday and Saturday.  DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT EMAIL ME YOUR RESERVATION FORMS.  The mailing address and email address is on the form.  Forward it through cyber space or by USPS to Epworth!  John Hancock, our new Newsletter Editor, will print a copy in the forth coming newsletter, as well.

I have reserved 45 rooms, but that does not mean that we cannot reserve more if more family decide to come.  Please visit Epworth on their website at
http://www.epworthbythesea.org.  I believe this will be a wonderful change from Jekyll.  The facilities are top notch and the meals and meeting room come built in to the price.

If you have any questions, please email them to me.  Remember, July 22-25 2005.  I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Chip

Any ol’ thing will do.  Please take 3 minutes and email them something.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the dates for Canady Reunion 2005.  Wow, 2005 already.  This year’s reunion is already shaping up to be even more fun and exciting than in the past.  I’ve been on the phone with several of our members who have some great ideas and are already planning parties and events, such as...

There will also be swimming, hiking, golf, basketball, stickball and other outdoor activities at our disposal because we are MOVING!  That’s right folks, we will not be on Jekyll Island next year.  I will soon be announcing our new location.  Sorry for the tease, but there are a couple of minor details to finalized.  Needless to say, but I am EXTREMELY excited.  Here’s one more tease....better rooms, scenic view, better rates, great food and lots of outdoor activities at our disposal.

So, with that said, here’s the dates.

July 22-24 2005
Mark them on your calendar and make plans to be there!

I ask that you forward this email to as many of our family members as you can because I don’t have everyone’s email address.  Thank you.

Have a Merry Christmas and I’ll see you next year.

August 2004

Hello Canadys,

The Summer is almost over, the kids are back in school and another Canady Family Reunion is behind us.  Just a few short months ago we celebrated our 30th reunion.  Everything came together on a positive note despite last minute changes in the hotel and accommodations.

If you didn’t tune in, here are some updates. After the Georgia Coast Inn suddenly closed its doors, the Clarion took us in.  The weather didn’t dampen a golf outing or the fun and games on Saturday.  I was “railroaded” in as your new President (by my own Grandmother) and Julie Hancock Costolo joined me as vice-President.  Hoyt Canady stepped down as Treasurer and Macie (mom) took over. Vicky Bussey replaced her cousin Nancy Lynch as Secretary.  Dillon Canady returned this year to claim his title as Oldest attending Canady.  Vicky Bussey’s son Jackson was the youngest.  By way of Iraq, Capt.. Jimmy Lane, USMC received the award for farthest traveled.

Terry Sauerland brought his family from Guyton.  They had not been to a reunion in long time. We welcome them back and sincerely hope they and others return next year.

As with any new change in administration, there will be changes in events and location (possibly).  Hopefully for the better and for the enjoyment of all.  After receiving several suggestions, I am looking into several different venues.  Some are not on Jekyll, but close.  My goal is to keep it convenient and economical for everyone.  The majority of the reunion attendees come from Georgia and Florida.  If were to look at it on a map, you can see why the first reunion organizers came to Jekyll Island.

I have been approached about new games for the adults on either Friday or Saturday evening.  If you would be interested in hosting, organizing or helping with an event, please contact me via email.  No one took advantage of the space and materials this year for adult bingo and some were left disappointed.  The materials will always be there.  If you want something to happen speak now. Don’t snicker under your breath later after the chance has passed.  We’ve been presented with some fun ideas for next year and I hope we see all of them happen.  All for fun and fun for all.

Now, get your thinking caps on.  Start making plans for next June.  Invite those we’ve missed in the passed.  Better yet, figure out a way to bring them with you. The Summer is almost over, so instead of looking back, let’s look ahead.

Please forward this message to any Canady relative with an email address.  There were some sign in sheets missing and some email address were not legible.

That’s all for now.  I’ll keep you updated.
